XXXIV Sunday in Ordinary Time – Cycle “B”, CHRIST THE KING, November 22, 2009

St. John brings to life the discourse between Jesus and Pontius Pilate, the Roman governor of Judea. The passage forms part of the Gospel account of Christ’s passion. Arrested and now standing before Pilate, Jesus is questioned about His kingship. What kind of king is He? What sort of kingdom does He rule? The replies Jesus gives to Pilate’s question will noly make complete sense after the resurrection. Yes, Jesus is king, but a king whose power and authority are not of this world. He is a servant-king, who desires only to do the will of His Father out of love for the whole of humanity.

Sometimes we all struggle to see the truth for what it is. Our faith tells us that the Gospel is not a fairy tale. It is not a work of fiction but the living word of life.
