First Sunday of Advent – Cycle “A”, November 28, 2010

Today’s Gospel tells us to be prepared, because one day, perhaps when we least expect it, we are going to meet the Son of Man – maybe at His second coming, or maybe at our own death. We will be called to give an account of ourselves – to have a lifetime of faithful, loving service to offer God. So the Gospel is calling us to think about appearing before God, and to start preparing now. We are called to try to seek reconciliation with anyone with whom we’re at odds; to forgive; to let go of our petty concerns and the ways of the world; to love and to be compassionate to all; and to spend the rest of our lives seeking God and God’s kingdom. We are called to let God into our lives, and it is especially appropriate to work on this during this season of Advent.
