First Sunday of Lent – Cycle “A” and Solemnity – Institution of the PNCC, March 13, 2011

Today we celebrate the Institution of the Polish National Catholic Church.

“This year marks the 114th Anniversary of the organizing of the PNCC in Scranton, PA by a group of Polish immigrants under the leadership of Father Francis Hodur in March 1897. […] When the PNCC was organized, Bishop Hodur did not want to establish a new sect. He wanted the PNCC to be a part of that One, Holy, Caatholic and Apostolic Church founded by Jesus Christ Himself. He wanted it to be a true Church having the above mentioned attributes, but yet a Church with democratic governance. The PNCC, therefore accepts all of the teachings of the Undivided Church (up through 1054 AD). […] We cannot forget that the Church is the Body of Christ, of which Christ is the Head and all baptized people are her members. We must remember that Jesus is that true vine, and we are the branches. In order to survive and to grow we must live in Him and He must live in us.” — God’s Field No 5, March 9, 2010 – the Most. Rev. Robert M. Nemkovich.

Let us pray – especially today – for our Church, for her present and future. Let us never forget that the true, spiritual Church, cannot be built on money-making activites only!
